The guy is a total nutcase. He's the type that gives all Chrictians a bad name. Unfortunately, many take the worst example and automatically condemn the whole.
Well, I would agree to a point. Phelps is certainly insane. However, the thing about guys like Phelps is that their theology is actually more accurate than yours. If you got into a scripture-quoting match with a guy like him, you would lose. Liberal, moderate theology is bad theology. God really does hate gays and shell-fish.
Agreed. In the context of 500 AD or 1000 AD, it made a certain amoung of sense to not realize that scripture is ridiculous. Now, believing in the bible is just nonsense.

Quoting scripture is one thing. Keeping it in context is something else entirely.
